[edit] General information
The Asus EeePC is a device which competes with the 100 dollar laptop. As such it's small, light-weight and thus highly portable. As you can see below however that means that low-power consuming hardware is used and that no optical drive is included. This means that in order to watch/use DVD's or other media an external player is needed (USB connected).
The EeePC is available in Pearl White and (in the USA) also in Black. More colours are planned namely green, blue and pink (they also show up on the boxing of the EeePC) however are yet to be released.

Intel Celeron-M ULV 353, 512kB L2-cache
[edit] Memory

This together with hard drive space is where the major difference in the different EeePC units are. DDR2 type memory is used in every model however size varies. The maximum size is 1 gigabyte for the 8G model, 512 megabytes for both the 4G and the 4G-surf and 256 megabytes for the 2G model. Also, in certain models the RAM is soldered to the mainboard rather then connected via a slot.

[edit] Wireless networking
-
The EeePC (4G and 2G) use the Atheros AR5007EG 802.11b/g wireless card. These cards have drivers for both Windows (Vista and XP) and Linux (MadWifi) and support Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) and Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) (so WPA and WEP). Driver downloads available at:
[edit] Hard drive
-
To keep power consumption low and boot times fast the Asus EeePC uses an SSD (Solid State Drive). These drives are made out of flash memory and thus have no moving parts (another reason that SSD was chosen for the EeePC). Silicon Motion provides a 4GB-ssd for the 4G (701) model.
[edit] Webcam
A 0,3 megapixel camera is included in the top rim of the EeePC's screen in the 8G and 4G models (not the 4G surf!).
